Intercultural ALIGN Workshops

Helping European-led companies prepare for, understand, and address cross-cultural friction in Southeast Asia.

Prepare your managers and teams to work more effectively across cultures — before friction becomes costly, or when it is already affecting collaboration, performance, relationships, and wellbeing.

Two practical first-step workshops: one for companies entering Southeast Asia, one for companies already operating in the region.

Two situations.
Two ALIGN workshops.

The organizational cost of cultural friction.

Cross-cultural friction is often treated as a communication issue.
But over time, it can become an organizational issue.

It can affect:

  • speed and quality of decisions

  • trust between headquarters, international managers, and local teams

  • collaboration across roles, functions, and regions

  • engagement and retention

  • wellbeing of expatriate and local professionals

  • the company’s ability to operate sustainably in the local context

The visible symptoms may be misunderstandings, frustration, silence, resistance, or delays.
But the underlying causes may sit deeper: in expectations, leadership habits, behavioral styles, relationship dynamics, decision rights, processes, or unclear assumptions about how work should happen.

Intercultural ALIGN helps companies slow down enough to understand what is really happening, then move forward with clearer priorities.

If your company is already operating in Southeast Asia

You may already have:

  • local branch;

  • local team;

  • partner network;

  • operational presence in the region.

At this stage, the friction may already be visible.

It may show up as:

  • recurring misunderstandings;

  • weak trust;

  • slow or ineffective decision-making;

  • tension between European management and local teams;

  • tension between headquarters and the local branch;

  • low engagement;

  • retention issues;

  • staff stress;

  • reduced performance.

The challenge is not simply to say, “This is cultural.”
The real question is: what is actually driving the friction?

It may be cultural, behavioral, relational or systemic.

Recommended first step:
In-Market ALIGN First-Level Workshop ➔

If your company is entering or expanding into Southeast Asia.

You may be:

  • opening a local branch;

  • expanding regional operations;
    preparing a new market entry;

  • relocating European managers and professionals into a Southeast Asian context.

At this stage, the friction may not be visible yet.

But the risks are already there:

  • culture shock;

  • unclear expectations;

  • weak local integration;

  • misunderstandings with local teams or partners;

  • slower adaptation;

  • avoidable stress for the people sent to represent the company.

The opportunity is to work upstream: preparing people before intercultural friction becomes costly.

Recommended first step:
Pre-Entry ALIGN Workshop

When collaboration becomes harder than expected.

When European-led companies enter or operate in Southeast Asia, collaboration does not become difficult simply because people lack goodwill or competence.

It often becomes harder because expectations are different, communication styles do not match, trust is built in unfamiliar ways, decisions move at a different rhythm, or headquarters and local teams are working from assumptions that have never been made explicit.

Sometimes the company is still preparing to enter the region. Sometimes it is already there, and the friction has started to affect performance, relationships, or wellbeing.

This is where Intercultural ALIGN begins.

Pre-Entry ALIGN Workshop.

For companies preparing to enter or expand into Southeast Asia.

The Pre-Entry ALIGN Workshop is a practical intercultural preparation workshop for European-led companies entering Southeast Asia or relocating European managers and professionals to the region.

It helps participants understand the cultural context they are entering, compare the cultural expectations of the origin and destination countries, and prepare for more effective communication, trust-building, decision-making, leadership, and collaboration.

The workshop is designed for companies preparing to:

  • open a local branch or company;

  • expand operations in Southeast Asia;

  • send European managers or professionals to an existing local branch;

  • prepare key people for relocation or leadership in a new cultural context.

What the workshop covers.

Core workshop: 12 hours · 3 sessions × 4 hours
Delivery: online by default
Language: English or Italian
Participants: 4–8 recommended · 12 maximum

The workshop is designed for groups of European managers, professionals, or key personnel preparing to enter, expand, or relocate into Southeast Asia.

For smaller groups, the format can be adapted into a Small Group Track for 2–3 participants or an Individual Track for one manager, professional, or entrepreneur.

In-person delivery is available upon request and quoted separately.

The workshop explores:

  • cultural differences and culture shock;

  • key intercultural dimensions;

  • comparison between home culture and destination culture;

  • communication, trust, feedback, and decision-making;

  • adaptation risks and practical preparation.

It is adapted to the company’s origin and destination country, with a comparative exploration of the two cultural maps and their practical implications.

Format.

Company takeaway.

At the end of the workshop, the company receives a Pre-Entry ALIGN Readiness Summary, including:

  • key cultural readiness themes;

  • a comparative view of the two cultural maps;

  • expected adaptation risks;

  • practical recommendations;

  • suggested next steps.

Participants leave with:

  • greater cultural awareness;

  • clearer expectations;

  • practical tools to communicate, build trust, and adapt more effectively.

In-Market ALIGN First Level Workshop.

For companies already operating in Southeast Asia.

The In-Market ALIGN First-Level Workshop is a diagnostic and development workshop for European-led companies already operating in Southeast Asia and experiencing friction in cross-cultural collaboration.

It is designed for mixed groups of European and Southeast Asian managers, team leaders, and key stakeholders directly involved in the collaboration challenges being explored. It can also be adapted for European-only or local-only groups, depending on the company’s context, sensitivity, and objectives.

The workshop is especially relevant when cross-cultural friction is already affecting:

  • performance;

  • relationships;

  • wellbeing.

What the workshop covers.

Not every cross-cultural challenge is purely cultural.

Some frictions are linked to national or cultural expectations.
Some are connected to individual working styles or behavioral preferences.
Some come from damaged trust, unspoken tension, or low psychological safety.
Others are created by unclear roles, decision rights, processes, or structures.

The KindCompass ALIGN Matrix helps explore four dimensions:

  1. Culture
    Communication, feedback, decision-making, trust, hierarchy, and collaboration.

  2. Behavior
    Working styles, communication preferences, and interpersonal dynamics.

  3. Relationship
    Trust, tension, psychological safety, and mutual perceptions.

  4. System
    Roles, expectations, decision rights, processes, and structures.

The goal is to understand where the friction is most likely coming from, so the company can respond at the appropriate level.

The In-Market ALIGN First-Level Workshop helps the company move from visible friction to shared understanding, practical learning, and targeted next steps.

Before the workshop, selected participants complete the online ALIGN Assessment. This provides an initial map of perceived friction areas, so the workshop can start from real aggregated data rather than generic assumptions.

The workshop then uses the KindCompass ALIGN Matrix to explore whether the main sources of friction appear to be primarily cultural, behavioral, relational, or systemic.

It combines three elements:

  1. Diagnostic insight
    Participants review the main friction areas emerging from the ALIGN Assessment and connect them to concrete collaboration challenges.

  2. Practical learning and first intervention tools
    Participants learn to recognize cultural, behavioral, relational, and systemic sources of friction, and receive an initial set of practical tools to address them in everyday collaboration.

  3. Action orientation
    The group identifies priority areas, possible root-cause hypotheses, and first practical steps to improve communication, trust, decision-making, and collaboration.

Format.

Company takeaway.

At the end of the workshop, the company receives an ALIGN Diagnostic & Action Roadmap, including:

  • key friction symptoms;

  • priority friction areas;

  • likely root-cause hypotheses;

  • first intervention tools;

  • development priorities;

  • recommended next steps.

The Roadmap is organized through the KindCompass ALIGN Matrix, helping the company distinguish whether the friction should be addressed mainly at the level of culture, behavior, relationship, or system.

Instead of responding generically to “communication problems” or “cultural differences,” the organization can identify likely sources of friction and choose more targeted next steps.

Why KindCompass.

What can happen after the workshop.

The workshops are designed as first steps.

Depending on what emerges, the company may choose to continue with tailored ALIGN support, such as:

  • cross-cultural alignment training;

  • individual coaching;

  • group coaching;

  • team coaching;

  • DISC / behavioral work;

  • facilitated dialogue;

  • systemic alignment workshops;

  • periodic ALIGN reviews.

For companies in the Pre-Entry phase, a natural follow-up may be a 6-month Settlement Support Coaching pathway for managers and professionals during their first months in the new context.

For companies already operating in Southeast Asia, a natural follow-up may be a set of Customized ALIGN Interventions based on the priorities identified in the workshop.

Are the ALIGN workshops right for your company?

If your company is entering, expanding, or already operating in Southeast Asia, we can explore:

  • what stage your company is in;

  • whether the current need is preventive or diagnostic;

  • which people should be involved;

  • whether the Pre-Entry or In-Market workshop is the right first step;

  • what kind of support may be useful after the workshop.

The exploratory conversation is complimentary and lasts 30 minutes. It is an opportunity to assess the fit openly, with no obligation to proceed.
